Artist's Statement

In my paintings, the drawings of the figures face straight ahead, the “guts” and “heart” confronting anything from fear of terrorism to overcoming personal demons. There are rarely faces on the torsos, making the figures universal. The letters or phrases that I collage onto the canvas serve as little hints or clues that point to the part of the painting (or part of us) that is the focus. This is the part we need, must overcome or work through. These images are metaphors for our memories as well as for the things things we have forgotten.
